Absolute Poker has freerolls throughout the day.  This is an excellent opportunity for a beginner to practice their play against live opponents.  These freerolls include Omaha and 7 Stud, so it also provides a great opportunity to learn a new game.

Full Tilt poker has a large stable of pros that play on their site regularly you can sit down with any of them and watch the masters play.  Of course it can cost you.  Other than that these games are quite hard and should probably be avoided by the beginner.

Generally this is a very friendly and fun place to play, and the associated Pokah! forums can be a good source of information for the beginner.

Everest Poker is the home of the single table freeroll.  Every 10 minutes they start 10 single table freerolls with a prize pool of 10 cents.  As a lark we did a competition at www.TotalBluff.com on who could build the biggest bankroll without depositing.  One of our members cashed out $100 after only 6 weeks.

Dream poker is a Prima network site.  Download the client and sign up and they will give you a no deposit bonus of $10.  Not much but if you stick to the micro limits and stay patient you can build it into a 'roll.

Paradise is one of the best and largest sites on the Internet today.  More importantly for the beginner.  Paradise has true micro limit games all the way down to $.02/.04.  This is a great place to learn and better than the "fun" money games because something is actually at risk.  It is quite surprising how much money a beginner can lose even at $.25/.50.  I should add that the players at Paradise can be abusive of beginners sometimes.  Just mute the chat and continue play.  They'll get over it as you stack their chips.

Noble poker is one of the few sites that allow a 1st person view of the table.  Although this might be considered a cute characteristic, for the beginner it could be invaluable in getting a perspective of how the game is played at a live casino.  Let them practice in the shallow end of the pool so to speak.  Good practice prior to the first trip to a live casino.  Add a liberal number of freeroll tournaments plus limits down to .02/.04 and this is one of the best "beginner" sites.

www.TotalBluff.com forum is a place where adult poker players go for fun.  Take note it should come with a Surgeon Generals Warning:  If you are thin skinned, easily offended, or prone to fits of indignation, you might find the site interesting but you should probably avoid the Total Bluff Forums.
